This masterpiece, coming from Selinunte (Trapani), is the oldest sculptural representation of the myth and dates back to 550 BC.
Europa, a Phoenician princess, was abducted by Zeus who, transformed into a white bull, carried her across the sea to Crete. It is a small metope that was part of the architectural decoration of the so-called temple Y, erected on the acropolis of the city.
