On January 26, 1802, the Council of Lyon established the Italian Republic with Milan as its capital. Napoleon is its president, while the vice president is Francesco Melzi d’Eril. Both in the Italian Republic and in the subsequent Kingdom of Italy, some of the most important political offices are held by Reggiani, including Antonio Veneri, Giovanni Paradisi and Carlo Zucchi in particular.
