The Cuts or Spatial Concepts. Attese were first exhibited in February 1959 at the Galleria del Naviglio in Milan. The term Attese indicates temporal suspension, presupposing a present and a future. It is therefore a conceptual work, because the artistic operation consists in breaking through the canvas, through a cut created in the pictorial material and support. Having lost any figurative function, the painting becomes a monochrome surface containing a breach, a passage to a parallel universe, an alternative mental space.
