Vase with multiple mouths from the Frassino lake, recovered during the archaeological excavation of the Palafitta del Frassino lake near Peschiera del Garda (VR) and dated to the Ancient Bronze Age.
The vase with multiple mouths, dated to the Ancient Bronze Age, was recovered during the archaeological excavation of the Palafitta del Laghetto del Frassino near Peschiera del Garda (VR). The pile-dwelling site of Frassino, frequented since the ancient Bronze Age, rises along the southwestern shore of a morainic lake, surrounded by the Lugana vineyards, not far from the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino. The submerged archaeological area, known since the beginning of the twentieth century, is located about three or four meters under the waters of the lake. Recent research indicates that the settlement was also extended in the area currently on the mainland, up to about seventy meters from the current coast. Ceramics with engraved decorations, shells, metals and tools in bone, stone and wood have been found. This important archaeological site, together with other important pile-dwelling sites of the Alpine Arc, has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
