Antonio David (1684-c.1730), Italian school, Charles was a descendant of the Scottish royal house of Stuart. Like his father James, he tried unsuccessfully to regain the throne of Great Britain with the support of the "highlanders", being known as "the Young Pretender". After his sterile marriage at the age of 52 with the German Louise de Stolberg-Gedern, his character became violent and he took refuge in alcohol, finally dying in Rome.
