Rock Cod Swimming is a work by Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (c.1924–2015), who was one of the leading contemporary Australian artists of the last decade. Although her career began in 2005, she has since taken the art world by storm. Sally Gabori joined the group of artists at Alcaston Gallery in 2006. Sally Gabori's immediate love of painting and the full spectrum of color offered to her sparked a flurry of ideas, including depiction of her country and its ancestral stories. While his works might be recognized as abstraction, they are actually landscapes and seascapes, and his fascination with color seems as significant as the content itself. On closer inspection, the country, color and mind's eye combine to impart to the viewer a real and intimate sense of who Sally Gabori is and where she is from. The artist's raw talent and appeal have reached far and wide, resulting in Sally Gabori being one of Australia's most respected and sought after contemporary artists. The work on display is Rock Cod Swimming, 2005, acrylic on canvas, 213 x 90 cm.
