PORTRAIT OF PHILIP THE BEAUTIFUL (1478-1506) 15 Anonymous French 16th century, after an original by the Master of the Legend of the Magdalene (Bernaert van der Stockt) ca. 1490. In the past, mistakenly identified as Louis IX, it is a portrait of the young Philip of Habsburg, known as the handsome, Count of Flanders and future king consort of Castile. Portrayed with a falcon as an allusion to the practice of falconry, habitual in the men of the court.
