PORTRAIT OF LUIS I OF SPAIN, PRINCE OF ASTURIAS (1707-1724), around 1710 Miguel Jacinto Meléndez (1679-1734), Spanish school, Philip V, grandson of Louis XIV of France and Maria Teresa of Austria abdicated on January 10, 1724 in favor of his then only son Luís, in order to dedicate himself entirely to his religious devotion. But the young prince died of chicken pox several months later. In this portrait he wears the Order of the Holy Spirit. The crown and sceptre, symbols of the monarchy, appear in the background.
