The model depicted at the age of approximately two years, wears a magnificent red silk suit, embroidered with gold threads according to the fashion of the end of the 16th century. The color of his suit, distinctive insignia of the cardinals, evokes his ecclesiastical future. With his hands he holds a cord tied to the leg of a goldfinch flying at his side, another symbol of the blood of Christ.
