From 26 October to 26 January 2025
The MAC - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Lissone presents from October 26, 2024, to January 26, 2025, MOCKUPAINT, a solo exhibition by Oscar Giaconia, curated by Stefano Raimondi.
The title alludes to a synthesis between painting and "mockumentary," "mock-up," "mock object" that refers to the spectrum of artifice inherent in the genetic code of painting, the artist's elective language. It is an original project that reactivates the various sets, props, and props fabricated over time.
Along the exhibition path, the visitor passes through different spaces that appear to be independent from each other and contradictory, but they are part of a single and broader field of imaginaries that the artist activates and deactivates over time.
On this occasion, the new series NEMAT PUPPET FROG (2024) is also exhibited, whose tropicalized iron frames were designed by architect Matteo Ghidoni: a unique piece in Oscar Giaconia's path, as the artist has always conceived and created all external devices within his studio, characterized also by the use of synthetic materials such as silicone cases, vulcanite, nylon, para rubber, and neoprene. The works of the NEMAT PUPPET FROG series are a metamorphosis of the prototype where fossil traces allude to the possibility of variety in unity, as suggested by biologist and naturalist D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson: "all things are what they are because they have become that way."
Among the various artist's staged productions, which were created to be then manipulated in painting, the exhibition includes: Calabiyau (2018), the mammoth taxidermy of a sewer pipe, and Sexual Clumsiness (2019), a 16mm video showing the offal of the prosthetic makeup session. An extensive selection of paintings of different sizes and periods also punctuates the exhibition; among them are Parasite Soufflè (2023), where the iconography of the parasite was developed, a condition extensively investigated over time; U.P.D. (2020), the appearance of a small unwanted panorama; Dad Head Playset (2024) where the stubborn identity of the father's head finds its home in a pocket shell.
The design path of MOCKUPAINT, designed in collaboration with architect Maria Marzia Minelli, alludes to an open mechanical construction site, and it retains the idea of exhumation and excavation from the construction site, as well as the components, albeit counterfeited: bear grilles, concrete plinths, fences manipulated according to an aesthetic sensitivity close to the warlike - surgical domain.
