Maria Palliggiano
Internal Vision, n.d., oil on plywood, 59.50 cm
Born in Naples in 1933, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, she was a student of Emilio Notte, with whom she had a son and whom she married in 1964. She died by suicide in Naples in 1969.
During her brief but intense career (about ten years), she contributed with the artists and friends of her generation to renew Neapolitan painting from within. Alternating between a baroque background and dissolves in abstract directions with metaphysical points, which conceal substantial corporeality. The first works reveal personal restlessness, then the luminosity becomes diffuse or with intense corporeality.
The surrealist influence first and then the cubist influence can be traced in the work exhibited in the Collection.
