Claudio Lezoche
Girl on horseback, 1998, pencil on paper, 210×320 mm
He was born in 1929 in Naples. A student of Emilio Notte at the Academy of Fine Arts, he later taught for about thirty years at the art high school in his city.
Starting from realism, Lezoche evolved his pictorial poetics towards neo-metaphysical positions from the sixties, rejecting the conceptual and informal. He arrived at a personal metaphysics of the everyday, where rarefied atmospheres become an unsettling scenario for his characters, trapped in a suspended time.
In his paintings, various levels of interpretation converge leading to fairy-tale and imaginary worlds. The elegance of the subjects, the metaphysical dichotomy between man and nature. Even in the preliminary drawing phase, the work on display leads us elsewhere, focusing on the only note of color, that granted to the moon.
