Jules Lellouche
Prostitute, Thirties, oil on canvas, 30×40 cm
Born in 1903, considered one of the painters who brought great prestige to Tunisia, he did not benefit from a classical artistic education. Born into a modest Jewish family, he was self-taught. After exhibiting his first works in Tunis in 1921, he won a scholarship to Paris in 1926, where he discovered the world of artistic avant-gardes and the great painters of the past. Called back to serve in the Tunisian army in 1940, he returned to Paris in 1948. He died there in 1963.
