Moses Levy
Party at a hotel in Viareggio, Thirties, oil on masonite, 14×20 cm
The oldest of the three was a master for the others. It is under the influence of Moses Levy that Maurizio joins the avant-garde movements with Antonio Corpora and Jules Lellouche.
Born in 1885 to an English father and an Italian mother, he trained in Italy in Florence, alongside Giovanni Fattori. Forced to leave Italy due to racial laws, he moved to Nice and later returned to Tunis. After the Second World War, he first moved to Paris, then to Florence, and in 1961 permanently to Viareggio where he died in 1968. The predominant features in his paintings are the Mediterranean flavor, strong colors, and the subjects of his paintings are often linked to the local culture.
