The painting pays homage to the Neapolitan confectionery tradition. On the right, on a pewter stand, a rich offer of delicacies is depicted, among which it is possible to identify fan-shaped biscuits, covered with honey, slices of sponge cake and long aniseed biscuits, called anesi . On the left, however, in contrast to the elegant backsplash, a more popular cuoppo (funnel-shaped foil) of the Neapolitan culinary tradition is depicted, containing white sweets, probably sweet dumplings of sugar paste or chunks of royal pasta to be nibbled with fingers. Their shape also evokes a type of candy known at the time as franfellicchi, sweets made from a soft skein of stringy sugar, which were sold on the street.
