It is an eighteenth-century genre scene, typical of the production of the Spanish artist who after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid had frequented the studio of Jean-Leon Gerome in Paris. Set in an elegant interior, the image does not lack any of the motifs usually recurring in this genre of painting; note also the painting in the background, a gallant scene placed in the alcove, which reinforces the story in the foreground.
