Verified profile

As the inscription on the back attests, the painting was donated by Fontanesi, in 1872, to the architect Pontremoli of La Spezia. It is one of the artist's various studies on the theme of rural work, in relation - as acknowledged by Farese Sperken, 2005 - with the version exhibited in Turin in 1873 and preserved in the Gallery of Modern Art of the same city. Of the oil in the Grieco collection, which represents a simplified version, the broad and synthetic brushstroke and the warm sunset light, which Fontanesi has been able to fully render, are particularly appreciated.
