In the second half of the eighteenth century, the Meissen manufacture gradually lost the role of artistic guide in the European panorama that was solidly acquired by Vincennes - Sèvres. This stunning coffee service from Meissen has that formal pattern: a solid dark blue monochrome background with gold ornamentation framing pictorial scenes. The landscapes depicted on the pieces derive from the famous views of Dresden and its surroundings painted by Bernardo Bellotto for Frederick Augustus III of Saxony.
