The presence of fountains inside the Palace was one of the wonders of the city, which already had a public aqueduct since the fourteenth century, an impressive work of hydraulic engineering. The octagonal fountain, once gushing, located in the center of room IV is traditionally identified with the Fons Arenghi and was probably transported here from the square in front of the old Palazzo del Popolo located where Palazzo Ducale now stands.
