Description

This kit belongs to a man who was armed with a sword, inserted in a sheath covered in bronze sheet, and a spear; he also wore a protective chest plate (cardiophylax), part of the armor, and had a razor. His dress can also be reconstructed thanks to the reproductions present on the steles of the Daunia (current province of Foggia), which show pectoral plates similar to this one, or to others, found for example in Lavello (PZ). From two leather shoulder straps hung a band on which the plate was nailed, and then hung the sword; a system of laces, attached to a bronze ring on the back, held the armor in place. This tomb, in the necropolis of Torre del Mordillo, suggests the existence of a form of leadership, traced by the presence of a combination of prestigious weapons such as the bronze sword with scabbard and the cardiophylax, certainly an exclusive element of graves of emerging individuals.
