Description

These bronze fibulae belong to a characteristic class of the early Calabrian Iron particularly well attested in the Sibaritide, undoubtedly one of the main production districts. The circular disc arch in the foil has a large transverse median rib, raised and adorned with four longitudinal grooves bordered by bundles of three short transverse grooves in correspondence with the engagement of the spring and the bracket, both in section rod circular; single-winding spring and straight pin, parallel to the arc; small symmetrical and triangular bracket. They have a rib and edge of the disc, incomplete, marginalized with a thin line incised in a dense zig-zag. When found in closed contexts, the types with a large oval shield arc coaxially developed with the pin, with longitudinal ribs, or disc, recur in significant female outfits and are often placed in identical pairs to characterize the set.
