After the exhibitions dedicated to two great masters of Italian and international photography such as Tina Modotti and Mimmo Jodice, starting from February 14, 2025 with Henri Cartier-Bresson and Italy and Riccardo Moncalvo. Photographs 1932-1990, CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin inaugurates the exhibition program of 2025. Curated by Clément Chéroux and Walter Guadagnini and accompanied by a catalog published by Dario Cimorelli Editore, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Italy is an exhibition chronologically marked by Cartier-Bresson's travels through the peninsula from North to South, by the effervescence and depth that the landscape, especially human, of our country was able to convey to the photographer defined as the eye of the century, and by the richness of editorial testimonies, capable of recounting, among newspapers, magazines, and books, the stages of the relationship between the Master and Italy. Developed in collaboration with the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris, the exhibition focuses on the crucial moments of the photographer's career starting from the Thirties: it is precisely during this first journey that the still very young artist acquires new awareness about his career and defines the stylistic feature that will make him recognizable worldwide. In 1932, Cartier-Bresson visits Italy for the first time, defining some themes that will characterize his entire production such as the extraordinary management of image space, the relationship between reality and fiction, the ability to capture the moment. Upon his return to Italy after the Second World War, as a photojournalist, he produces reports for various international publications documenting not only the discomfort and critical issues of the southern social context, but also the extraordinary traditions and innovations introduced by agrarian reform. During the same period, he moves between Rome, Naples, and Venice, photographing the daily life of the cities and portraying the intellectuals of the time. Finally, we come to the Seventies, during which Cartier-Bresson focuses on the relationship between man and machine and on the industrialization, in particular of the South of the country: it is from those years the reports on the Olivetti plant in Pozzuoli and on the Alfa Romeo plant in Pomigliano d'Arco.
