Rebel Muses. Women, Image, Power in Art History is the major exhibition hosted at the Exhibition Center of the Church of Santo Stefano in Mondovì, open for visits until October 4, 2026.

Curated by art historian Consuelo Lollobrigida, the exhibition offers a journey through over five centuries of art history to reflect on the relationship between images, identity, and power. More than sixty works – including paintings, photographs, installations, and videos – engage in a dialogue between female and male artists who have contributed to shaping, interpreting, and transforming the representation of femininity in Western culture.

The exhibition brings together masterpieces by leading figures in art history such as Sofonisba Anguissola, Lavinia Fontana, Artemisia Gentileschi, Plautilla Nelli, Elisabetta Sirani, Virginia da Vezzo and Rosalba Carriera, alongside works by contemporary artists like Ketty La Rocca, Dadamaino, Vanessa Beecroft, Shirin Neshat, Elisabetta Di Sopra and Alice Pasquini, offering a comparison of eras and languages that provide new perspectives on the role of images in constructing the female imaginary.

More than just an exhibition dedicated to female artists, Rebel Muses is an exploration of the power of images and their ability to influence collective memory, social relationships, and the perception of identity. Supported by international scientific research, the project invites the public to revisit art history through a contemporary lens.

The visitor experience is enhanced by an interactive installation dedicated to Frida Kahlo, allowing visitors to interact with the artist through artificial intelligence, the official Amuseapp audio guide providing insights on the works and artists, and a pet-friendly route, allowing access even for pets.

Rebel Muses offers an opportunity to rediscover key figures in art history and, at the same time, reflect on the role that images continue to play in shaping our perspective on the present.
