Robegan House

Robegan House

The complex of Ca' da Noal, Casa Robegan and Casa Karwath takes us back to the proudly bourgeois and municipal past of Treviso, which thrives on that creative ferment that has made our city an authentic "City of Art" since its foundation. valuable buildings of late medieval origin with a typical frescoed façade, renovated at the beginning of our century, are the story of the success and entrepreneurial skills of its inhabitants which today present themselves as a wonderful exhibition venue. Acquired by the municipal administration in 1935, and renovated at the beginning of 2000, the three adjacent buildings overlooking the current Via Canova changed their original medieval layout several times, until they were recovered "in Gothic style" thanks to the Melchiori – Botter restoration of 1938. They therefore became the headquarters, in that year, of the Museum of the Trevigiana House, transferred here from the spaces of Borgo Cavour. The layout of the original Ca' da Noal recreated, in fact, the rooms of an ancient house with the kitchen on the ground floor and living rooms, dining room and music room on the first floor, furnished with furniture, paintings and various objects.

During the bombings of 1944 it was partially destroyed and was later rebuilt thanks to a new intervention by Mario Botter. The Seventies marked the beginning of a happy season of rebirth: reorganized according to a project by Carlo Scarpa, these spaces became an exhibition venue for twentieth-century art exhibitions, such as the one dedicated to Gino Rossin in 1974, and then continued in the Nineties with a cycle exhibition on ceramics, ancient fabrics and other sections of the civic collections. The contiguous portion of Casa Robegan and the interconnecting hall on the first floor of Casa Karwath correspond to buildings, also of medieval origin, which each present a very important Renaissance frescoed facade and the other an elegant neoclassical facade. In 1995, the thoughtful restoration work by architect Bellieni allowed the full recovery of the internal spaces, now mainly used for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. The internal garden, designed in continuity and extension of the internal environments, comes alive in the summer of numerous artistic, cultural and convivial initiatives.
