ongoing JUBILEE 2025

The show

On January 22nd at 5.00 pm, the exhibition GIUBILEO 2025. THE PATH OF FAITH was inaugurated in Rome, at the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo. Testimonies of art and thought, promoted and organized by the European Center for Tourism, Culture and Entertainment and hosted in the spaces of the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo, belonging to the Directorate of State Museums of the city of Rome of the Ministry of Culture.

The project traces the evolution over the centuries of themes and figures of sacred art, evidence of the complex relationship over time of the community with the religious sense, within a place - Castel Sant'Angelo - whose history is intimately intertwined with that of the Church.

The exhibition, designed and curated by Mariastella Margozzi, until a few months ago Director of the State Museums of the City of Rome, with the collaboration of Stéphane Verger and Cardinal Angelo Comastri, is accompanied by a catalog published by Gangemi Editore which presents essays by the Cardinal himself Comastri, by Cardinal Agostino Marchetto, by Massimo Ruben Rossi, as well as by the curator. The texts relating to the artists and works on display are by Vincenzo Lemmo, Michele Occhioni, Laura Salerno, Riccardo Salvatori.

From the oldest works, those of Vittore Crivelli from the end of the fifteenth century, to the most recent of the contemporary Omar Galliani, the exhibition unfolds a journey that spans over five hundred years of history. Starting from sixteenth-seventeenth century art (with works, among others, by Orazio Gentileschi, Bernardo Cavallino, Mattia Preti), we move on to the cultural choice of modern artists (Domenico Morelli, Gaetano Previati) to finally arrive at research of a profound and renewed spirituality in those of the second half of the twentieth century (the anguish of Mario Sironi, the hieratic serenity of Giacomo Manzù, the religious vision of Venanzo Crocetti, the stormy one of Pericle Fazzini, the caustic spirit of Giovanni Hajnal). With Omar Galliani, the only living artist and leading exponent of renewed figurative research, the exhibition addresses the contemporary representation of the understanding and visual objectification of the mysteries of the Faith.

At the same time, and always in the wake of exemplifying the many possible paths of Faith, the exhibition opens to the thoughts of women and men of the last century: saints, blessed, but also figures of contemporary culture.
