From 19 February to 15 April 2019
On Monday 18 February 2019 at 6.30 pm, the Atelier Pharaildis Van den Broeck archive opens to the public for the first time on the occasion of Project Room # 1.
In this first appointment, the artist Alessandro Roma confronts the works and materials preserved in what has been, since September 2008, the atelier of the Belgian-born and Italian-by-adoption artist Pharaildis Van den Broeck.
Invited to reflect on some central themes in Van den Broeck's work such as the repetition of the pictorial sign and iconographic elements and the relationship between painting and fashion, Rome, without critical and aesthetic conditioning, has conceived and created a new work in dialogue with the materials stored in the archive.
Alessandro Roma's project is part of a series of Project Rooms born from the need to give value to the very particular production of Pharaildis Van den Broeck. For each of these
opening moments of the Atelier Archive, an artist selected on the basis of the specific characteristics of his research and the process of creating the works is involved.
Each artist involved is asked to choose and view a portion of the archive materials (works, folders, library, etc.) and to think of a project to be carried out for and in the archive itself. The artists involved can observe and study the materials to create a new work that is also evidence of a hypothetical dialogue between them and Pharaildis Van den Broeck, between the present and the recent past.
