Palazzo Strozzi presents Tracey Emin. Sex and Solitude, the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to one of the most famous and influential artists in the contemporary art scene.
Curated by Arturo Galansino, General Director of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, the exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in the multifaceted work of an artist who ranges from painting, drawing, video, photography, and sculpture, experimenting with techniques and materials such as embroidery, bronze, and neon. The title refers to two key words, sex and solitude, which permeate the over 60 works in a journey that spans different moments of Tracey Emin's career, from the nineties to today, in an intense exploration of themes such as the body and desire, love and sacrifice. Many of the works are presented in Italy for the first time, along with new productions in various media created for the exhibition.
Renowned for her direct and raw approach in her art, Tracey Emin creates works in which intimate and private moments are transformed into existential metaphors reflecting on sexuality or illness, solitude or love. Through an honest and deeply autobiographical exploration, Emin translates personal experiences into intense and powerful works, where the direct and explicit language of her famous neon phrases merges with the strong materiality of her paintings and sculptures.
