The Kunstmuseum Walter is an Augsburg museum dedicated to contemporary art. It is located in the Glaspalast (Glass Palace) and was founded in 2002 by the entrepreneur and collector I gnaz Walter.
The entrance to the museum on the first floor leads through a long black tunnel, where on the ceiling there is a large inscription with the first suggestion: "calm down". After a few meters, the second suggestion appears: "Relax". Finally, after a few more meters, the third suggestion “Enjoy it” arrives. This floor mainly exhibits international and former West German works of art. In addition, contemporary and modern art from today's Federal Republic of Germany is presented. Upstairs, the Ostdeutsche Kunst (the art of East Germany), the so-called Leipzig School, is presented, with works from the 19th to the early 20th century.
The collection consists of about 1000 works. Among the internationally renowned artists there are Buffet, Carzou, Castelli, Centeno, Christo, Dokoupil, Fernandez, Flora Fong, Fuchs ,, Rudolf Hausner, Hrdlicka, Makina Na Kamura, Kippenberger, Kirkeby, Lackovic, Martinez ,, Perino ,, Rabuzin , Arnulf Rainer, Ranucci, Rodin, Salcovic, Sidorin, Zaslonov and several others.
