Schaezlerpalais

Augsburg's Schaezlerpalais is a prestigious residential building housing municipal and state art collections. Located in the heart of the city (in Maximilianstraße), it is a private mansion of a banker built in the eighteenth century, whose architectural peculiarity is given by the fact that the main facade, of just 19 meters, is significantly smaller than the side one. , 107 meters long. Inside, the main attraction is represented by the huge ballroom full of mirrors, gilded friezes, paintings.

The Schaezlerpalais preserves several artistic collections: the German Baroque Gallery (Deutsche Barockgalerie), on the first floor of the Palace, with important works of Baroque and Rococo painting, artistic periods in which the city of Augusta represented an important artistic center. An important section of the museum is then represented by the collection of the Haberstocks, which the city received as a donation in 1983. It consists of about 40 masterpieces of European painting, with works by artists such as Veronese, Tiepolo, Van Dyck, Jacob Ruisdael and Lukas Cranach the Elder. The donation also included the library and precious archival materials. There is also a rich collection of works with the technique of glass painting, widely used in Augusta in the eighteenth century.
