The Römisches Museum is a museum in Augsburg dedicated to ancient art, in particular Roman art. The city of Augusta, in fact, was founded in 15 AD by the Emperor Augustus, and is therefore one of the oldest cities in Germany. The Römisches Museum bears witness to this period, with finds and excavations from the Stone Age to the Roman Age. Many exhibits are of exceptional scientific importance and are regularly loaned to nationally and internationally renowned museums and exhibitions. Until 2012, the museum was located in the rooms of the Dominican church (Domenikanenkirche) of the city. Due to technical problems, the collection was moved to the arcade of the Armory. The museum houses a colossal statue of Augustus, the illustration of the Peutigerian Table (7 meters long), commercial goods of all kinds, numismatic collections, the almost 1800-year-old original wooden remains of a dock for ships and the merchant god Mercury, two elements that testify to the commercial character of the city of Augusta Vindelicum. A Roman dining room is then rebuilt, with a triclinium.
