Libero Galdo
Blue from the "Fiori" collection, 1967, acrylic on plywood, 36.50×29 cm
Libero Galdo (Naples, 1918 – 2016), in the Fifties participates in the art movement "Sud" and is one of the promoters of the Neapolitan artistic movement "Documento Sud", from which "Gruppo '58" is born, with the participation of Mario Persico, present in the collection.
His painting is initially inspired by metaphysical geometries and later by the Informal and Nuclear Art, of which one of the signatories of the manifesto is Persico. Galdo experiments with dripping and subsequently new techniques (collage and ink) and dedicates himself to the research of the movement. Already a futurist, he opts for action painting following the direction given by Pollock. This influence is visible in the work exhibited at the Foundation.
