The dress consists of a tailcoat, undershirt and trousers. A fundamental element of eighteenth-century clothing, the tailcoat, called velada in the Veneto area, has a military origin and owes its name to Count Jean de Marsin. It looks like a long jacket with flaps, with a line fitted to the bust and flared at the hips. Characteristic are the sleeves that are not very long but flared at the bottom and have wide cuffs. The wide and flat buttons are numerous and constitute an important decorative element. The tailcoat was always worn open to leave the undersea in plain sight, usually made with more precious fabrics and a contrasting color. This sleeveless garment has a tight fit and is always shorter than the tailcoat. The trousers, also called braghe or bragoni, have a tapered line and are short at the knee, where they are fastened with some buttons. In the eighteenth century, men's clothing still showed a profusion of colors and ornaments. The most common decorations were, as in this case, floral embroideries, characterized by an exuberance of colors and botanical forms, often rendered with great realism.
