The last work of Andrea Palladio, it is inspired by the Greek and Roman theaters of antiquity. Commissioned in 1579 to Palladio by the Olympic Academy, left unfinished in 1580 due to the death of the architect, it was completed by Vincenzo Scamozzi with the famous perspective scenographies representing the streets of Thebes and inaugurated in 1585 with the representation of Sophocles' Oedipus the Tyrant. .
