The Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage of the Archdiocese and the Foundation Museum of the Cathedral Treasure and Capitular Archive of Vercelli, on the occasion of the Jubilee 2025, propose the temporary exhibition entitled In Your Name. Art Speaks of Community. From the Sixteenth Century to the Contemporary World.
The title of the exhibition is linked to the initiatives promoted by the CEI throughout the nation: In Your Name will unite in 2025 the projects of many Italian cities that move together with the aim of enhancing the heritage of ecclesiastical Museums, Archives, and Libraries.
The exhibition is curated by Marta Concina, Daniele De Luca, and Sara Minelli and aims to narrate, through the works of Sergio Saccomandi, the evolution of Christian religious and secular art over the long period between the Council of Trent and the contemporary world. In three environments closely linked to the ecclesiastical world, an archdiocesan art gallery, an ecclesiastical museum, and a former church, Saccomandi's works will touch on religious themes in a secular and contemporary key: the Shroud, the death of Christ, the Crucifixion. Alongside these, visitors will also discover the artist's most recent works, far from the religious world but equally rich in suggestions. Saccomandi is not only a painter with a long career, but also an engraver and a set designer. An artist and at the same time a storyteller, capable, in this context, of engaging with the art of the past. The exhibition will be integrated into the permanent setups of the exhibition venues, in full dialogue with the already exhibited works. Furthermore, at the headquarters of the Cathedral Treasure Museum, which, together with the Art Gallery, will extensively address the theme of the Shroud, the exhibition will be an opportunity to present a new and evocative exhibition space, the so-called wunderkammer of the Museum, as well as to exhibit some lesser-known or unpublished works.
The exhibition In Your Name is supported by the 8x1000 funds to the Catholic Church on the initiative of the National Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Worship Building of the CEI, organized in collaboration with the Diocesan Cultural Association and sponsored by the Province of Vercelli, Municipality of Vercelli, and the Italian Ecclesiastical Museums Association AMEI. The exhibition catalog is supported by VAuto, Zurich Bank, and Lions Club of Vercelli.
