From November 21st to December 14th, 2024 the Treasure Museum of the Cathedral proposes Contemporary Codes. Avicenna 1000 years later, a temporary exhibition proposed in collaboration with Studio 10 and the Italian Catholic Doctors Association.
The exhibition stems from the ambitious project of Dr. Elvira De Marino, president of AMCI - Vercelli section, to enhance the history of medical science through its sources. The starting point is a precious manuscript preserved in the Capitular Library with the canon of Avicenna, a Muslim physician and philosopher who, around the year 1000, contributed to the creation of a medical legacy still recognized today. The code, which is a continuous subject of study, has been an exceptional model for fifteen contemporary artists who, at the invitation of Carla Crosio of StudioDieci, have created fourteen works freely inspired by Avicenna's canon.
The works will be exhibited at the Treasure Museum of the Cathedral until December 14th and then sold, as well as the exhibition catalog, to support the restoration of the manuscript's binding.
The artists on display include Rossella Canè, Michela Cavagna, Carla Crosio, Caterina Del Nero, Valentina De Luca, Alessandra Favini, Donatella Giagnacovo, Salvatore Giò Gagliano, Margherita Levo Rosenberg, Ruggero Maggi, Diego Pasqualin, Federica Patera + Andrea Sbra Perego, Ornella Rovera, and Guido Tassini. Each will offer the public their interpretation of the manuscript, medicine, and ultimately life itself and the deep connection between body and spirit
