From February 14th to May 3rd, 2025, the MACTE Museum of Contemporary Art in Termoli presents the Italian preview of the project The Falcon of Karachi by Elisa Caldana.
The exhibition presents a series of works inspired by the little-known figure of the Laggar falcon, an endemic species of Pakistan, India, and Myanmar that is disappearing. Elisa Caldana, with the help of many collaborators from Europe and Pakistan, reflects on the relationship between wildlife and domestication and on the processes that are set in motion when wild nature is forced into conditions of captivity. The falcon becomes a metaphor for thinking about power dynamics, pollution, but also for putting human rights at the center.
The entire series of works of The Falcon of Karachi was created with the support of the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture within the Italian Council program (2023). The project was partly produced with the support of the Mondriaan Fund, promoted by the Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht), in collaboration with Vasl Artists’ Association (Karachi), West Den Haag (The Hague), SIC (Helsinki). The works are part of the MACTE collection.
