With "BÄNG!" the State Gallery focuses on the work of five female artists: Yoko Ono (born 1933), Yvonne Rainer (born 1934), VALIE EXPORT (1940–2026), Carolee Schneemann (1939–2019), and Charlotte Moorman (1933–1991). What makes the work of these women so unique is their radical approach to art. On display are over 100 historical photographs of eccentric actions, legendary performances, and choreographies from the 1960s to the 1970s. With works from the Sohm Archive, the exhibition spans from the Neo-avant-garde in the Rhineland to the art scenes in New York and Vienna. The exhibition specifically explores the connection between performance art and photography.
