From 28 October 2023 to 29 February 2024, the Museum of the Ancient Palazzo dei Vescovi in Pistoia welcomes The Enchanted Garden. Interactive journey through the millefiori tapestry: an immersive installation capable of offering an unprecedented experience of one of the masterpieces of Flemish textile art of the 16th century, allowing it to be explored, for the first time, in three dimensions.

The installation is a project by Fondazione Pistoia Musei and Fondazione Caript conceived and created in collaboration with the artistic collective camerAnebbia, curated in its scientific contents by Annamaria Iacuzzi and Cristina Taddei, curators of Fondazione Pistoia Musei, and Gaia Ravalli, art historian of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa with the supervision of Monica Preti, director of the Pistoia Musei Foundation.

The millefiori tapestry of Pistoia called "of the Adoration", in wool and silk, of considerable size (267 x 790 cm), is one of the most important works of art in the city and depicts a refined flower garden also populated by wild animals and fantastic, like the unicorn.

The artefact, owned by the Cathedral of Pistoia and exhibited in the Museum of the Ancient Palazzo dei Vescovi since 2016, is currently set up in one of the most representative rooms of the Favoloso Calvino exhibition. The world as a work of art: Carpaccio, de Chirico, Gnoli, Melotti and the others ongoing at the Scuderie del Quirinale until 4 February 2024.

Inside the room of the Ancient Palazzo dei Vescovi, the visitor can interact with a touchscreen table, through which he can explore the multimedia contents, enriched by a textual apparatus that delves into the themes, the subjects represented, the secrets of history and of tapestry making.

Simultaneously and in sync with navigation, a large projection is activated on the wall, which re-proposes the image on which the user is intervening, theatricalizing and spectacularizing both the aesthetic elements and the interactive dynamics.
