The GAMeC of Bergamo is the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of the city, a multifaceted space where temporary exhibitions, experimental projects dedicated to the collections, and activities of mediation, integration, and education for different audiences coexist. GAMeC is a workshop of visual culture, a place of investigation, experimentation, and dissemination of the languages of modernity, in continuous dialogue with the demands of our time. The museum was inaugurated in 1991 by the Municipality of Bergamo, and has been operating since 2000 through the Association for the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, whose founding members are the Municipality of Bergamo and TenarisDalmine, and supporters include the Fondazione Banca Popolare di Bergamo, Bonaldi Motori, and Carvico S.p.A. A virtuous model of shared public-private management, the GAMeC is located in the spaces of the Ex Monastery delle Dimesse e delle Servite, a fifteenth-century building - renovated at the end of the nineties by Vittorio Gregotti - located in the historic Piazza Carrara, the pulsating heart of the Bergamo museum district, where in addition to the GAMeC, there are also the Pinacoteca dell’Accademia Carrara and the School of Art.
