From 9 December to 5 May 2024
The exhibition, promoted by the Glauco Lombardi Museum at the opening of the XXIII edition of the annual Maria Luigia Week event, intends to investigate the relationship existing between the Habsburg duchess Maria Luigia and the Casino dei Boschi di Sala, a place that for all intents and purposes the entire duration of her duchy was her favorite residence and to which she devoted constant attention. Compared to the other residences of the duchy (the ducal palace of Parma, the palace of Colorno, the Mandelli palace in Piacenza), the Casino was by far the place dearest to her, where she spent long and repeated periods of stay, demonstrating on every occasion and in various modality the strong affection nourished towards that place which became the extra-urban residence par excellence, definitively supplanting from 1822 the Colornese palace, a place she absolutely did not love.
The exhibition, and above all the publication that will accompany it, aim to retrace the history of the Casino in the Luigino period, restoring and reconstructing, through archival investigations and private letters from the duchess, the role that the duchess attributed to that place, as life and what was done (from government activity to the sovereign's personal passions, from painting to music and much more), when he lived there, and what events it was the scene of. There will also be a section dedicated to the architectural history of the ducal factory and the fate of the existing furnishings. The iconographic documentation relating to the Casino dei Boschi which was produced in those years through the ducal commissions will also be traced. An in-depth study will also be dedicated to the productive function of the estate and the Corona woods.
In addition to works owned by the Glauco Lombardi Museum, pieces from private and public collections will be on display, while some documents will be lent from the State Archives of Parma. A series of photographs by Edoardo Fornaciari depicting the current layout of the building, its interiors and annexed dependencies will complete the exhibition.
The exhibition, curated by the writer, will have free entry and will be accompanied by guided tours during the entire period.
