From 21 September to 1 February 2026
Presented within a significant timeframe – between the International Day of Peace (September 21) and the Day dedicated to Civilian Victims of Wars and Conflicts (February 1) – Giorgio Vigna's works are positioned, as symbolic offerings, at the foot of the Cross.
Giotto's work, conceived in function of the pictorial cycle created for the Scrovegni Chapel, is the emblem of the Passion of Christ understood as a symbol of human suffering.
Approaching it, Giorgio Vigna's works take up ancient symbols, renewing them in the language of contemporary art: Crown, a crown of thorns in Murano glass, immediately evokes the pain of the Crucifixion; Water is a simple-shaped copper bowl inside which shines transparent Murano glass with ruby red reflections, recalling the Eucharistic cup.
The initiative, symbolically uniting two important commemorations in this time marked by conflicts and instability, arises as a poetic reflection on the theme of human suffering that runs through history and our present.
A special project born from the desire to activate a visual, emotional, and spiritual dialogue between ancient and contemporary art, through the juxtaposition – conceived with the utmost respect – of different languages in a common space.
The ancient and the contemporary look at each other without overlapping: their respective identities emerge strengthened, contributing to a collective reflection on the suffering of victims of conflicts past and present. The experience of war, in fact, remains like an open wound in society's conscience and in the generations that undergo it, directly or indirectly, imposing itself as a collective responsibility.
