From 2 October to 15 October 2025
The Luciana Matalon Foundation in Milan presents the solo exhibition of Dimitrije Popović titled "The Myth of Fashion" from October 2 to 15, 2025. An exhibition project that includes over 50 works including paintings, drawings, and installations, among which an imposing triptych serves as the narrative and symbolic centerpiece of the entire journey. The opening, scheduled for Thursday, October 2, will offer the public the opportunity to meet an artist who has been exploring the great themes of the Western imaginary for decades, combining painting and writing, critical reflection and visual invention, in a language that traverses the history of art, literature, religion, and contemporary myths.
Dimitrije Popović, born in Cetinje, Montenegro, in 1951, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he graduated in 1976. His artistic journey intertwines with that of some protagonists of surrealism and visionary painting of the 20th century: during his stay in Paris, he came into contact with Dado Đurić, Salvador Dalí, Ernst Fuchs, and Leonor Fini, participating in exhibitions alongside these masters. In 1982, he was present in Milan at the grand Jubilee of Leonardo with the cycle "Homage to Leonardo" and in the following years exhibited in prominent contexts, from the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto to the Pantheon in Rome, up to UNESCO in Paris. International awards and recognitions have marked a path that now includes over three hundred group exhibitions and numerous solo shows, accompanied by essays, critical volumes, and works of fiction. His research has been repeatedly recognized as one of the most original in the European landscape, capable of combining intellectual rigor and imaginative power.
