The Museum für Photographie is a museum in Braunschweig dedicated to photography. Founded in 1984, the museum organizes regular monographic exhibitions dedicated to internationally renowned contemporary photographers. In addition to its assiduous and appreciated exhibition activity, the museum also aims to preserve and remember the photographic tradition of Braunschweig, in particular, of the ancient companies Rollei and Voigtländer. The museum also preserves the rich legacy of Brnswick photographers Käthe Buchler (1876–1930), Hans Steffens (1915–1994) and Nikolaus Geyer (1968–2005).
Over the years, the museum has positioned itself as a stimulating place for debate, illuminating the current artistic practices of the photographic medium as well as the current role of photography in the media. Through events such as guided tours, artist conferences, readings or film screenings, aspects of the works and artists presented are deepened and integrated. The program is completed by a broad educational offer, aimed in particular at children and school groups, as well as exhibition catalogs and annual editions.
