The Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum is a museum in Braunschweig dedicated to the history of the city. Founded in 1891 as the municipal patriotic museum for the national history of Braunschweig, the BLM documents the history of the Duchy of Braunschweig and the Free State of Braunschweig from prehistoric and protohistoric origins to the present day. The Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum consists of several locations. In addition to the main office ( Vieweghaus), the Hinter Ägidien venue is dedicated to the Jewish religious history of the city. In fact, the Hinter Ägidien headquarters of the BLM is established as the oldest Jewish museum in the world. It is located in the remaining rooms of the former Benedictine monastery of St. Egidien, where there is also the Gothic choir of the church of the former Pauline convent, which was moved from Bohlweg precisely to Hinter Ägidien in 1902.
