From 25 January to 25 February 2024
As part of ART CITY Bologna 2024 and on the occasion of Arte Fiera, the Raccolta Lercaro inaugurates ORAMA on January 25th at 6 pm, a solo show by Lucia Bubilda Nanni curated by Barbara Pavan, which can be visited until February 25th 2024.
The term ORAMA refers both to the view and to the projection and suggests that to see with awareness it is necessary to also explore the direction of things , the shadow . It is this 'double' that reveals the mutability, impermanence and true nature of every visible manifestation, the plurality of reality that a superficial observation, a single point of view, cannot restore.
Lucia Bubilda Nanni gives substance to this reflection with an impressive installation of more than two hundred and fifty portraits in which the visitor is invited to enter to find himself observed .
What opens at the Lercaro Collection is the latest exhibition, in chronological order, of a project born from the artist's research which began in 2012 - and is still in progress - with the census of photographs of the faces of an unusable section of the Monumental Cemetery of Ravenna who begins to draw freehand with his sewing machine - a heavy Bernina model 1008 mechanical with electric pedal - to save them from oblivion. It is the start of a path that will lead her to reflections and suggestions that investigate the different declinations of the face and gaze through a plurality of disciplines - from philosophy to biology, through Lavater's eighteenth-century theory on physiognomy, the studies of the neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux , up to the recent hypotheses on LUCA.
The installation here, finally, places itself in direct dialogue with the user and with his possible readings and reactions and wants to be, mainly, emptiness and silence , to give him time for a reversal of the gaze, of the image and of the double; an uncomfortable reversal, a subjection from which to escape or remain for a long time. Who is this contemporary subject who, protected by the screen of a smartphone or computer, spies on the world and the lives of others, losing awareness of being himself the object of observation and judgement?
Nanni introduces us to this dimension of an object , letting everyone experience its perimeter, its border, the reactions, the thoughts and the emotional significance that it inspires.
This first event of 2024 continues the review with essentially monthly appointments which aim to open new views and perspectives on art thanks to the collaboration of galleries, artists and curators.
Furthermore, the precious collaboration with Pasticceria Regina Di Quadri continues, which materializes through the meeting of fine pastry making with the world of art. On Thursday 25 January, at 6pm, on the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition, it will be possible to taste the renowned Carnival "chestnuts with cream", created for a meeting between art and taste.
The exhibition will be open to visitors with free admission from 25 January to 25 February 2024 at the following times:
Tuesday and Wednesday 3.00pm-7.00pm; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10.00-13.00 / 15.00-19.00.
