Description

The signed painting has been identified with that of the same title exhibited by Signorini at the Promoter Society of Fine Arts in Florence in 1863. The representation of this sunny Tuscan landscape, "inhabited" by three characters caught in various attitudes (a woman with a great sunlit hat, bending over to pick olives; a young girl stretched like a rope to reach the highest branches of an olive tree; a child sitting on the ground rubbing his eyes in boredom), is set on a diagonal along which they climb down the slope of the hill dominated by the compact group of cypresses, above the large, bright piece of sky slightly clouded, on which stand out large leafy olive trees.
