Pasquale Vitiello
Castle in Palma Campania, oil on masonite 1961
(Torre Annunziata 1912-1962) attends the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples under the guidance of Emilio Notte, of whom he is then an assistant (1943-1945). Starting from 1948, he participates in numerous important national and international art exhibitions that allow him to meet many contemporary artists such as Paolo Ricci. Vitiello, while living through the political tensions of his time, resists trends and politicized factions. This choice is also evident in his painting.
The poles within which his pictorial experience moves are contemplation and existential restlessness, well rendered thanks to the insistence of the thicknesses of the chromatic material and the sudden ignitions and expressionistic deformations as in the work Castle in Palma Campania.
