Horace
G. Horatii Flacci Opera
Parmae, in Aedibus Palatinis, Typis Bodonianis, 1791
This is the first volume that Bodoni printed with his presses in his own private printing house, for which he obtained permission in the same 1791 and it is the first of the series of Latin classics in folio printed for Nicolas De Azara, ambassador of Spain to the Holy See. The Spanish patron wanted to have these editions done in Rome in the Palace of the Spanish Legation, but Bodoni was kept in Parma by Duke Don Ferdinando and here he then made all the editions for De Azara.
The title page, comparable to the pediment of a temple, sees Quintus's dotted Q alone at the top: a formal audacity that makes the result splendid.
