The Institute of Modern Art of Valencia, also known by the acronym of IVAM, was founded in 1986. Its program of activities includes both the display of its permanent artistic collection, and the organization of temporary exhibitions and the carrying out of activities collateral such as conferences and workshops.
The permanent collection of the IVAM is unique of its kind and one of the most important in Spain, it includes artists from Valencia, Spain, Europe, Latin America and America. Particular attention is paid to the historical axes that furrow the historical avant-gardes of the first half of the twentieth century and that reach the second half of that century.
The nucleus of works kept at the Ivam counts 11,322 works that include painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video, installation and more. The IVAM collection is organized into eight areas: Modernity, Analytical Abstraction, Oneiric Poetics and Dadà, Informal Gestures, Reality and its Chronicles, Urban Cartographies, Individual and Contemporary Mythologies 1980-2010.
