The show

With the great Walter Albini exhibition. The talent, the stylist, curated by Daniela Degl'Innocenti and Enrica Morini, the Fondazione Museo del Tessuto di Prato from 23 March to 22 September 2024 pays homage to the genius of the stylist and absolute pioneer of Made in Italy Walter Albini (1941-1983 ), just over forty years after his untimely death.

Walter Albini. The talent, the stylist wants to offer a rereading of the entire professional career of an absolute protagonist of Italian fashion between the end of the Sixties and the early Eighties, born from a long research work conducted by the curators with the aim of outlining an exhaustive and documented by the stylist.

For the first time the exhibition combines graphic materials - drawings, sketches, sketches, photographs, fashion magazines and archive documents - with many clothes, accessories and fabrics often unpublished and never exhibited, thus allowing us to reconstruct the entire creative history of Albini, from his first experiences as an illustrator and fashion designer to the latest collections of the 1980s.

The starting point for the realization of the project was the Walter Albini Collection of the Textile Museum, acquired thanks to a substantial donation from Paolo Rinaldi, Albini's collaborator, received between 2014 and 2016: a heritage that includes over 1,700 objects including bijou , sketches, drawings, photographs, documents, books, clothes and fabrics belonging to the stylist, which document the stylist's interests, creativity and great design ability.

The exhibition project is also enriched by important loans from public institutions such as the Communication Study and Archive Center (CSAC) of the University of Parma and Palazzo Morando | Costume Fashion Image of Milan, and from private lenders: ANGELO Archive, Nicoletta Canu Archive, Carla Sozzani Collection - Sozzani Foundation, Doris Beretta Collection, Enrico Quinto and Paolo Tinarelli Collection, Francesco Campidori Collection, Ilaria De Santis Collection, Massimo Cantini Parrini Collection, Simona Morini Collection, Tiziana Vintageafropicks Collection, Vito De Serio Collection, Madame Pauline Vintage Archive.

Among the famous photographers who gave access to their archives for the exhibition and the catalog are Maria Vittoria Backhaus, Archivio Alfa Castaldi, Archivio Ballo&Ballo - Civico Archivio Fotografico, Municipality of Milan, Fiorenzo Niccoli, Franco Bottino - Archivio Storico Fondazione Fiera Milano, Gian Paolo Barbieri Foundation, Aldo Liverani.
